Hanoi [Vietnam], February 20: The Vietnamese box office on the first day of Tet (Lunar New Year) witnessed a competition among film projects including "Tho Oi" (directed by Tran Thanh), " Nha Ba Toi Mot Phong " ( Truong Giang ), " Mui Pho" (Minh Beta), "Bau Vat Troi Cho" (Le Thanh Son)...
According to Box Office Vietnam data , on its opening day, "Tho Oi" (Oh, Little Rabbit) topped the box office with revenue exceeding 30.4 billion VND (as of 11 PM on February 17th). This achievement brings the total revenue of the film directed by Tran Thanh to 42.9 billion VND.
Previously, this film project broke records by becoming the Vietnamese film with the highest number of advance ticket sales of all time, with 130,000 tickets. On his personal page, Tran Thanh also shared this good news and thanked the audience for supporting the film.
Following "Mrs. Nu's House," "Mai," and "The Four Conspirators," the film "Oh, Little Rabbit" is the next cinematic work chosen by Tran Thanh to release during Tet (Lunar New Year). The project brings together a star-studded cast including LyLy, Van Mai Huong, Phao, Vinh Dam, Quoc Anh, and others.
When asked about the change in style compared to previous projects, Tran Thanh said he sees it as an inevitable part of the creative process. "When you dare to do something, the risk is already inherent," he shared. Instead of worrying, the director chooses to focus entirely on product quality, because for him, doing a good job is his responsibility, while the risks are the market's business.
Regarding the budget, Tran Thanh revealed that the investment for "Tho Oi" (Oh, Little Rabbit) was almost equal to that of "Mai" (equivalent to over 45 billion VND). He admitted that he is a perfectionist, willing to spend billions of VND more to reshoot scenes if he wasn't completely satisfied, all to deliver the most polished product possible to the audience.
Regarding the film's 18+ rating, Tran Thanh said: "I think filmmaking should be thorough, it should make people believe the story you're telling. Don't let numbers limit you. A film with heavy psychological content, with jokes that are psychologically provocative, will be much more convincing with an 18+ rating."
Previously, when commenting on the 2026 Lunar New Year film market, Mr. Khanh Duong - representative of Box Office Vietnam - stated that despite fluctuations, Tran Thanh's film " Tho Oi" (Oh, Little Rabbit) has a high chance of maintaining its top position, while other projects will try to capture the remaining market share. "Adding international films, this year's Lunar New Year film market will be very vibrant," Mr. Duong stated.
According to Box Office Vietnam data, on February 17th, Tran Thanh's film seemed to far surpass its competitors at the Vietnamese box office. In second place was Truong Giang 's "My Father's House, One Room" with 9.7 billion VND, bringing its total revenue to 13.8 billion VND. Meanwhile, " Heaven's Treasure" and "The Scent of Pho" ranked third and fourth respectively with daily revenues of 4.3 billion VND and 3.5 billion VND.
