Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), August 6: A senior Tanzanian official on Friday urged fellow citizens to embrace information and communication technologies (ICT) with zeal, saying it will help the east African nation in realizing the digital economy.
Nkundwe Mwasaga, the director general of state-run Information and Communication Technologies Commission (ICTC), urged the youth to be at the frontline in embracing ICT by coming up with more innovations.
He said youth have been solicited to come up with local designed software and hardware which could be sold within and outside the country.
He said the government is committed to coordinating and promoting the innovations so that they go beyond the borders in competing with other countries in sharing a digital economy.
Mwasaga advised people to come up with the hardware and software in learning, teaching and translation of Kiswahili language which is highly on demand after the language was recently accorded international recognition by the UN.
He said the ICTC is carrying out massive awareness campaigns to ensure that every Tanzanian has the foundation skills in digital so that they do not end up being users of the imported technologies but players in the industry.
