Damascus (Syria), September 5: Syria on Saturday agreed to help Lebanon get Egypt's gas and Jordan's electricity through Syrian territories, according to the country's state news agency SANA.
The agreement was announced by head of the Lebanese-Syrian Higher Council Nasri Khoury, who told journalists in a statement that Syria agreed to Lebanon's request to help transmit gas from Egypt and electricity from Jordan through Syrian territories.
It's worth noting that the plan is supported by the United States.
The statement and SANA made no mention of what Syria would get in return for facilitating the flow of energy to Lebanon as Syria itself has been suffering from a lack of fuel, electricity, and gas as a result of the U.S. sanctions imposed on the Syrian government.
This comes as a Lebanese official delegation arrived in Syrian capital Damascus on Saturday, marking the first Lebanon's high-level visit to the war-torn country since the crisis began in 2011.
The Lebanese delegation comprised Lebanon's Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Zeina Akar, as well as Finance Minister Ghazi Wazni, Energy Minister Raymond Ghajar, and Chief of General Security Abbas Ibrahim.
The delegation was received at the Syrian-Lebanese border by Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad. Later, the delegation held talks with Syrian officials at the Syrian Foreign Ministry.
