Sao Paulo [Brazil], January 4: The inauguration of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who was elected on 30 October 2022, took place at the Planalto Palace on Sunday, 1 January. The inauguration session was presided over by the President of the Federal Senate Rodrigo Pacheco. Lula da Silva took the oath of office and signed the inauguration document, officially beginning his new presidential term.
After the inauguration, a reception for heads of state and country representatives will then take place at the Itamaraty Palace.
High-level delegations from 120 different countries, including 17 heads of state and government, participated in the inauguration of the newly elected president of Brazil. Russia was represented at the ceremony by Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. Within the framework of her working visit to Brasilia she met with Lula da Silva.
The Speaker of the Federation Council said she conveyed a message of Vladimir Putin to the Brazilian President and confirmed that he is expected to visit Moscow. It was also noted that Lula da Silva supported the idea of launching in the nearest future the work of a high-level commission with the Russian Federation, which has not met for several years.
Valentina Matvienko said that after the meeting she would inform the Russian leader of the proposals made by the Brazilian president, including the emphasis on the need to deepen and expand cooperation within the BRICS framework. She noted that the South American head of state, as the founder of this association understands the importance of developing integration associations that have become powerful poles of a multipolar world.
Lula da Silva is heading the country for the third time. He was first elected president in 2002, and then re-elected for a new term in 2006. The new presidency will last from 2023 to 2027.
During Lula da Silva's presidency, from 2003 until 2011, Brazil implemented extensive social and economic programmes to fight poverty and hunger, and broadened access to higher education and bank lending.
Lula da Silva became one of the most popular world politicians. He actively developed Russian-Brazilian relations and formed the BRICS union (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
